31st-Dec-2009 10:56 am - Locking sliding closet doors
Hipsters, I need your help.

I have two 9-month old cats, who are siblings. They are adorable, but are still in that ANNOYING KITTEN STAGE. Cheeto, the orange male, has an incessant habit of opening my sliding closet doors and getting inside. Because he knows he can open it. And when he does, he climbs the shelves and knocks stuff over. In addition, he's getting into the coat closet next to it and climbing everything in there.

I'm not asking how to discipline him - I am working on that but I am hoping he outgrows this. Also he tends to do it when I'm not home or when I'm asleep, which are times I cannot scold him. So by locking the doors I am hoping he'll give up when he realizes he can no longer get in there.

I'm trying to figure out a way to latch these doors so they don't open no matter HOW much he digs and rattles them. Plus it needs to be something I can easily unlock so I can get inside when needed.

Pictures to describe the closets and the culprit himself in action )

31st-Dec-2009 07:04 am - Mason jar lids
I use mason jars for storing food in the fridge and transporting things like soup and smoothies to work. I've been hesitant to put the rubberized inner lids in the dishwasher for fear of messing up their seal, since I know heat seals them for one-time canning-level seals in a canner. Do you think that I could wash these in the dishwasher without messing them up for my non-canning purposes where they need to have a good solid but not canning-level seal? I would hate to mess up a whole set of lids and find out I had because of all the smoothie spilled in my backpack! TIA for any tips, folks! And happy new year :)
31st-Dec-2009 09:09 am - Laundry Routine
I really need to get into a better routine for laundry. When I lived alone, I would do laundry once a week, on Sundays. I would wash in the morning, and fold in the afternoon while I was watching a movie or something else like that. It would take me about an hour (tops) of hands on time. Now that I'm living with my fiance and his two girls, I find that our laundry is too time consuming to do all at once. It takes me all day to wash and fold all the laundry that gets dirty.

So how do those of you who have families deal with laundry? Do you wash specific things on specific days? Do you make each member of your family fold or put away their own laundry? Any tips?
31st-Dec-2009 08:04 am - Follow up,,,
I made this post yesterday about how to wear my new scarf... http://community.livejournal.com/beauty101/9341059.html

Here ) are some pics I took this morning trying out some of your suggestions... what do you think?

Sorry they're dark, I couldn't get the light to cooperate with me this morning!
31st-Dec-2009 08:01 pm - Face moisturizer
1. May I have reviews on any of the following, please?
-Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15. Does Kiehl's give out free samples?

-The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion, and the Night Fade Lotion

- Simple Oil Balancing moisture lotion
http://www.simple.co.uk/products/oil-balancing-moisturiser-75ml-16.aspx

-Clean and Clear Fine Fairness facial moisturiser SPF 15

2. What do you use to fade acne scars? Even when I don't pick, it leaves a red mark for a month. Vitamin E gives me more break outs.

Recommendation:
Honey works very well as a spot treatment. Dab it on, and cover with a plaster.
For the deep, underground type (where you can't see the head, just a bump), Clean and Clear Advantage acne spot treatment works well.

Thank you:)
30th-Dec-2009 10:18 pm - My cheerful hide-away ;)

Hello there! My name is Nicole and I'm 27. I am a substitute teacher/grad student. I am living with my mom while in school. Therefore, I am attempting to fit an adult's bedroom into a tiny room fit for an 8-year-old and have tried to make the most of my small space. I love flowers and bright colors - they lift my mood. I love interior decorating in general and am an organization/neat freak, so my bedroom is never messy. Ever. Enoy! :)

p.s. My dog Chloe insisted on being included in the photo shoot.

Bright colors ahead! )

This is just the beginning, and it will get better, but I figured you'd like to see the drama as it is now.

looking at everyone's rooms is so inspiring sometimes, i love it :)
i'd like to ask some advice on hooks. i need some kind of way to hang my bags/scarfs/hats and i'd like it to be creative. i found hooks that i would like to use, but i wanted black and they only came in white.

and then i was thinking i could get cool looking drawer knobs and glue them to heads of nails, and make hooks that way?

i'd love suggestions! :)

Hey guys! I have a question for those of you who hang Christmas lights in your bedrooms.

What did you use to hang them? Thumbtacks? Tape? I have a set of Yoda lights I wanna hang in my room, but I'm clueless as to how I should hang them. Any tips/advice is appreciated!

Thanks a bunch! =]

31st-Dec-2009 01:57 am - kabuki brush
My kabuki brush from Everyday Minerals is shedding all over my face, so I'm on the lookout for a new brush to apply mineral make-up. Price isn't an issue, so long as it can last me a couple of years at least. I would like to be able to see the product before buying it - no online-only brands! Suggestions?
31st-Dec-2009 01:41 am - Hair communication!
Hey there! I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow and while I know what I want (ish), I don't know what exactly to tell the stylist, and I can't find a good picture of what I'm going for. I have a couple pictures that are close, so maybe if you guys tell me what to tell the stylist, I can have a successful hair experience. My usual one moved far far away so this is my first appointment with the new one, so I'm a little nervous about making a drastic change instead of like a tester-trim, but oh well. It's just hair, right?

All right, pictures! )
31st-Dec-2009 12:25 am - Guy Shoes
My boy has been wearing "skater" shoes for ages. But he's going to be 20 in a couple of months and I want to get him some more mature shoes. By no means do I want him to wear dress shoes, or anything. But I guess the padded tongue and fat laces are just getting old. What guy shoes do you think are really nice and cute? He would still like something in the sneaker family.

Also, do any of you have a PacSun PacLoot code that you aren't going to use and would be willing to share? I totally lost mine and now am really sad because I'd like to get some of their BOGO jeans.
30th-Dec-2009 10:22 pm - new foundation
I just bought Rimmel Matte Foundation from Target the other day and it doesnt give me enough coverage at all and it was just a weird shade on me.
I normally use either Loreal True Match Foundation which doesnt blend very well for me or Maybelline Superstay which breaks me out. I have mostly oily skin and would like something that blends well and has great coverage but not cakey.
any good foundations from Target or CVS that you can recommend?
THANKS!

30th-Dec-2009 10:08 pm - halp! i'm being attacked!
My daughter (almost 7 months) is a beast. She hits/pinches/hair pulls/bites/scratches me (and herself) all the time! She obviously doesn't do it to be mean, but it hurts (seriously, she can draw blood)! Other than duct tape and drugging her, is there any solution to getting her to play nicer? Right now, after she hurts me, I just hold her hands and give her a firm "No." (I know she doesn't get it, but someday she will, right?) She just smiles and wiggles her hands out of mine, and goes about doing her beastly business. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

30th-Dec-2009 08:59 pm - Revlon Foundation Update
After a few days of testing out this foundation I have found that it does last a while. I've worn it from 9am this morning up until now (8pm) and nothing has really moved. It looks generally the same as when I applied it (some spots look slightly dry but that tends to happen to any foundation I put on my face as I have dry spots; combination skin).

30th-Dec-2009 09:10 pm - staticy hair
my daughter's hair is extremely staticy.  short of shaving it off in frustration, what else works?  I've tried lotion (wikihow told me so), water, hairspray, this hair shine stuff that's like straight oil and we already have a humidifier.
30th-Dec-2009 08:32 pm - Eyeliner Questions
Hey everyone,

So I have 2 questions; hopefully you guys can help me out with them.

1) I recently bought Victoria's Secret's new eyeliner in Slate (a beautiful greyish color), and I LOVE it. It's lovely and soft, and doesn't tug at all. The thing about it is that I have no idea how to sharpen it. It doesn't seem to be a twist-up tube, nor do I think that I could use a pencil sharpener on it. Have any of you lot used VS's eyeliner, and were you able to sharpen them? I really like it and hope that it wasn't a waste of money if I can't sharpen it. :\

2) I'm currently looking for a nice black kohl/kajal eyeliner. I've heard that MAC's Smolder is great, and I'm considering getting it, but was wondering if there were any lower-end liners that were similar (ie: soft, don't tug, have good color payoff, etc.) The reason that I didn't buy the VS eyeliner that I mentioned earlier in black is because I haven't been able to find it anywhere! I'm not opposed to buying the MAC pencil, but IMO, it's never a bad thing to see if there is something of similar quality at a lower price. :)

Thanks in advance!

Pictures of cute, short, messy/textured pixies?
I made the mistake of not bringing in a picture to a new salon yesterday.
I now have a mullet. :(
30th-Dec-2009 08:22 pm - G.O. Organize
Anyone who was interested in doing G.O. Organize (the weekly point system): I've uploaded an .rtf file of my point breakdown on sendspace here.

This should open in any word processor so you can change it to reflect your needs.

The general gist is to pick (or repeat) things within categories to earn points, but you can't go *over* the total points assigned to the category unless you're repeating one of the few marked tasks.

For those of you who dye your hair-- do you do anything extra to make sure it's healthy, like deep conditioning? Is there a specific product or practice you would recommend?
